Philosophy in the Polis: Athens Intellectual Retreat

Duration: 7 days
Best season: March–May & September–October
Group size: 6–10 participants
Type: Slow travel, semi-urban retreat
Price: from €1,680 per person (includes lodging, meals, entry fees, guided sessions, private events)

This isn’t a dry academic trip or a checklist of ruins. It’s one week of slowing down, thinking big, and walking through Athens like Socrates might have — minus the toga (optional, though). You'll join a small group of fellow curious minds on a curated journey through philosophy, ancient city life, and the timeless questions still echoing between marble columns. It’s not all serious though — there’s coffee, street cats, and warm nights filled with ideas and good food.

Highlights
🏛️ Have a Socratic dialogue where Socrates actually used to walk (surprisingly moving, btw)
☕ Morning sessions at local cafés — philosophy with a side of espresso
🎭 Optional evening at an ancient-style theater performance
📚 Nighttime readings and reflections under the Athenian sky
🧠 No prior philosophy knowledge required — just a curious brain and maybe a notebook

Accommodation & Food
You’ll stay in a quiet, character-filled hotel not far from the Plaka, with a rooftop terrace that basically demands a sunset photo every night. Rooms are comfy, breakfast is solid (expect yogurt, honey, and strong coffee). Group dinners are in carefully picked tavernas — we’re talking slow-cooked lamb, fresh salads, grilled fish, wine if you want (but no pressure, we’re chill like that).

Who is this for?
People who read Plato quotes and actually want to talk about them
Writers, artists, wanderers, teachers — or anyone who wants a thoughtful break from the usual
Solo travelers and open-minded couples looking for a unique kind of journey
No previous philosophy experience needed, really. Just be open to listening and wondering

A Note Before You Book
This isn’t a tourist tour — there’s time to think, to reflect, to not rush. You’ll walk a bit, sit a lot, and maybe leave with more questions than answers. That’s kind of the point. It’s a slow, smart, city retreat. If you're looking for beaches and selfies, this isn’t it. But if you crave ideas, stories, and conversations that stretch across centuries — you’ll feel right at home.
